Shocking Test Results of Glyphosate in Breakfast Cereals

Moms Across America tested popular conventional and organic breakfast cereals for glyphosate — and the results shocked even our own researchers.

Key Findings

Laboratory analysis revealed glyphosate contamination across both conventional and organic cereal brands.

100%

Conventional Cereals Positive for Glyphosate

All 7 conventional breakfast cereals tested positive for glyphosate herbicide residue.

6 of 7

Organic Cereals Also Positive

6 out of 7 organic cereals tested positive for glyphosate — raising serious questions about the integrity of organic certification.

23.53 ppb

Kashi Cocoa Clusters Organic — Highest Level

Kashi Cocoa Clusters Organic had the highest glyphosate reading of any cereal tested, at 23.53 parts per billion — up to 235x the level that caused harm in lab studies.

Organic Cereal Results

One of the most troubling findings was the high presence of glyphosate in organic cereals, which consumers choose specifically to avoid pesticide contamination. 6 out of 7 organic cereals tested positive. The average glyphosate level in organic samples was 9.12 ppb compared to 10.36 ppb in conventional — organic cereals had only 11.95% lower levels overall. Kellogg's owns Kashi. General Mills owns Cascadian Farm.

Why This Matters

In 2012, French scientist Dr. Gilles-Éric Séralini found that exposure to just 0.1 parts per billion (ppb) of glyphosate disrupted sex hormones and caused severe liver and kidney damage in rats. In 1985, the EPA classified glyphosate as a “possible human carcinogen,” but that finding was later rescinded after intense industry lobbying.

Testing by Michael McNeil of Ag Advisory shows that drift-level exposure (just 1/40th of a normal application) to glyphosate reduces nutrient uptake by 80–95%. Because glyphosate use results in grains lacking nutrients, manufacturers now routinely fortify cereals. Kellogg's Corn Flakes contained 323 ppm of iron — one serving provides 121% of the recommended daily iron intake for children.

The Global Glyphosate Study conducted by the Ramazzini Institute found that glyphosate exposure at levels well below current “acceptable daily intake” caused 15 different types of tumors in rats, including rare and aggressive cancers.

Take Action

Demand transparency from cereal manufacturers and support stronger food safety regulations.
